מעלת חודש כסלו שהוא חודש השלישי דחדשי החורף, שאז מודגשת מעלת עבודת האדם מצ"ע, עפ"י המבואר בכ"מ דהעבודה של חדשי הקיץ היא באופן של "אתערותא דלעילא", ואילו העבודה דחדשי החורף, ימות הגשמים שבאים ע"י הקדמת ה"ואד יעלה מן הארץ", היא באופן של "אתערותא דלתתא". בקביעות ר"ח כסלו בש.ז. מודגש הענין של "מלכתחילה אריבער": א) "תהא שנת נסים". ב) ר"ה חל להיות בשבת. ג) ר"ח ביום השלישי "שהוכפל בו כי טוב" ד) פ' "תולדות יצחק" שלידתו היתה בנס ויש בה את הברכה של "ויתן לך האלקים וגו'" – "ויתן ויחזור ויתן". ומצד כל מעלות אלו הנה העבודה עכשיו, להביא את הגאולה, נעשית באופן נעלה ביותר ובמילא באה הגאולה מיד ממש! ואת הגאולה צריכים בפועל ממש ואי אפשר להחליף אותה אפי' בענין הכי נעלה כמו הפצת המעיינות חוצה שע"י אדה"ז וכו'.

The unique quality of the month of Kislev is that it is the third of the winter months, during which the emphasis is on man’s own service (winter is the season of rain, which comes after and as a result of the “mist rising up from the earth,” meaning, a Jew’s tefillah – an awakening from below), in contrast to the summer months (where the emphasis is on the awakening from above). The timing of Rosh Chodesh Kislev this year in particular emphasizes the approach of m’lechatchilah ariber: (1) The acronym for this year (תש"נ – 5750) is תהא שנת נסים – “May it be a year of miracles.” (2) Rosh Hashanah occurred on Shabbos. (3) Rosh Chodesh Kislev falls on Tuesday, when “‘It was good’ was said twice.” (4) The weekly parashah is “These are the descendants of Yitzchok…” whose birth was miraculous, and moreover, this parashah contains the blessing “And may Hashem give you…” – “May He give and give again.” Because of all these special qualities, the task at hand now – bringing Moshiach – can be carried out in the loftiest manner, and therefore the Redemption will come immediately. And the Redemption must take place in the literal sense: it cannot be substituted even by something as lofty as the spreading of the wellsprings outward by the Alter Rebbe etc.
